Partnered with the School of Government, the North Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing (NCAGP), through the CLGPO Certification Committee, offers a professional certification known as the Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO) certification.

Certification Requirements Overview (Updated July 2026)

  • Be an NCAGP member in good standing for the past three (3) consecutive years
  • Have at least five (5) years of direct purchasing experience in a North Carolina local government
  • Complete the four (4) required core courses offered by the UNC School of Government, beginning with Basic Principles of Local Government Purchasing, as outlined in Section III.C. of the Certification Policy
  • Complete at least twelve (12) Level 100 Procurement Modules
  • Complete at least twelve (12) Level 200 Procurement Modules
  • Attend at least three (3) NCAGP Annual Conferences
  • Attend at least three (3) NCAGP Regional Sessions (in person or online)
  • Pass all two (2) sections of the CLGPO certification exam
