Partnered with the School of Government, the North Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing (NCAGP), through the CLGPO Certification Committee, offers a professional certification known as the Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer (CLGPO) certification.

Certification Requirements

  • have at least three years of experience in the governmental purchasing profession;
  • be a member of NCAGP;
  • complete course pathway of four core courses (see below);
  • earn 22 points through activities such as training, conference attendance, service to NCAGP, and higher education; and
  • pass a certification examination administered by the School of Government.

The application cycle is from October 1 to November 1. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on November 1 for certification or the exam in the following year.

Certification Maintenance

Once certified, purchasers are eligible for recertification every five years, and may also seek permanent, lifetime certification. If you need a Lifetime Certification application, please email cuccaro@sog.unc.edu.
