Throughout our more than 90-year history, School of Government faculty have dedicated their time to understanding the ins and outs of local government in North Carolina. From broad-ranging courses suitable for any public servant to specific technical programs, our general local government courses will ensure practitioners have the tools they need to succeed.

As you advance in your career, the School of Government offers guidance on courses and resources relevant to your career. We provide two learning tracks: Certifications and Pathways. Many courses also meet the requirements for maintaining professional certifications and earning continuing education credits.

Certifications

Through continued partnerships with regional and national organizations, we are proud to offer courses that contribute to the completion of several professional certifications.

Pathways

Pathways highlight the core courses a professional should plan to take to ensure comprehensive subject-matter expertise. Beyond the core courses, related courses are marked for supplemental topics to ensure well-rounded professional development.

Continuing Education

Many School of Government courses qualify for continuing education credit and support ongoing professional development. Participants gain practical, relevant knowledge they can apply immediately in their work while maintaining certifications and strengthening professional skills.
