Certification Maintenance

North Carolina Certified County Clerk (NCCCC)

To maintain the NC Certified County Clerk (NCCCC) designation, clerks must renew certification every three yearsand:

  • Be a member in good standing with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC).
  • Complete 30 hours of continuing education, service, or approved professional activities during the three-year certification period.

North Carolina Master County Clerk (NCMCC)

Clerks who have maintained NCCCC certification for at least six (6) years may apply for designation as a North Carolina Master County Clerk (NCMCC).

  • Applicants must provide:
    • Proof of membership in good standing in the North Carolina Association of County Clerks.
    • A recertification application.

North Carolina Certified Municipal Clerk (NCCMC)

To maintain the NC Certified Municipal Clerk (NCCMC) designation, clerks must renew certification every five yearsand:

  • Maintain continuous membership in the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks (NCAMC).
  • Complete 30 or more hours of continuing education and participation during the five-year certification period.

Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) & Master Municipal Clerk (MMC)

To maintain the CMC or MMC designations, clerks must maintain an active membership in the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).
