The North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association’s NC Finance Officers’ Certification program is designed to enhance the public finance profession.

Certification Maintenance

To maintain certification, individuals must renew every five years and:

  • Remain employed in an eligible position
  • Maintain active membership in the NCGFOA
  • Complete at least 100 hours of professional training (1 CE hour = 50 minutes of training).
  • Individuals are responsible for maintaining their own records documenting completed training hours and any qualifying professional contributions.

Renewal Process

  • Individuals in the final year of their certification period will receive a renewal notification email in November.
  • The email will include a unique link to the renewal form. 
  • Important: Renewal forms are only available in November, through the emailed link, and are issued exclusively to individuals eligible for that year’s renewal cycle.
